Lab 14: Configure the restriction policy for Horizon Agent versions

Objective and Task

In this lab, you will configure global agent restriction policies in Omnissa Horizon Console to control which Horizon Agent versions can connect to your environment and provide custom error messages to users with restricted versions.

  1. Access the Horizon Agent Restrictions configuration screen.
  2. Configure earlier than version restrictions.
  3. Configure specific version restrictions.

Learn how to navigate to the Global Agent Restriction Settings page in Horizon Console where you can configure version-based blocking policies.

  1. Open the Horizon admin console for horizon-01a.
    • On your ControlCenter desktop, open the Google Chrome browser.
    • Click the bookmark on the bookmark bar for horizon-01a
    • This will connect you to the Horizon administrator console at https://horizon-01a.omnissatraining.com/admin
  2. Login to the Horizon admin console.
    • Username: administrator
    • Password: Pa$$w0rd
    • Domain: OmnissaTraining
  3. Navigate to the Agent Restriction Settings.
    • From the left navigation menu, click on Settings > Global Settings
    • In the Global Settings panel, click on Horizon Agent Restrictions tab.

This lab only illustrates the ability to configure Horizon Client Restrictions. The versions given in the next two tasks are only used as examples and do not indicate an issue with those versions.

Expand or collapse content Task 2: Configure earlier than version restrictions

Configure a minimum agent version requirement to block all Horizon Agent versions earlier than a specified version.

  1. Configure a minimum version of the Horizon Agent to be required.
    • Click EDIT.
    • Tick the box next to Windows
    • In the Block connections from Agent version(s) section dropdown menu, select Earlier Than.
    • In the version input field that appears, enter 8.10.0
  2. Configure a custom Message
    • In the text field, enter the following custom message: Your Horizon Agent version is not supported. Please contact the IT Help Desk at [email protected]
  3. Save the Horizon Agent Restrictions.
    • Click OK.

Note: This configuration will block any agent version with a version number less than 8.10.0 from establishing sessions.

Expand or collapse content Task 3: Configure specific version restrictions

Change the configuration to block specific problematic versions instead of all versions below a threshold. The versions listed here are only for illustration purposes.

  1. Configure to block specific versions of the Horizon Agent.
    • Click EDIT.
    • In the Block connections from Agent version(s) section dropdown menu, select Specific.
    • Enter the specific versions to block, separated by commas: 8.9.0,8.9.1,8.8.5
  2. Configure a custom Message
    • Update the Message for blocked agent versions field: Your Horizon Agent version (8.9.0, 8.9.1, or 8.8.5) has known compatibility issues and has been temporarily blocked. Please contact IT Support at [email protected] to upgrade to a supported version.
  3. Save the Horizon Agent Restrictions.
    • Click OK.
