Lab 4: Register a capacity provider with the Horizon pod

Objective and Tasks

You need to register at least one capacity providers with the Connection server to provide capacity for your Horizon pod. The capacity provider supplies the resources where the virtual desktops are hosted and run.

  1. Login to the Horizon admin console.
  2. Register a capacity provider with the Horizon pod.

  1. Open the Horizon admin console for horizon-01a.
    • On your ControlCenter desktop, open the Google Chrome browser.
    • Click the bookmark on the bookmark bar for Horizon-01a
    • This will connect you to the Horizon administrator console at https://horizon-01a.omnissatraining.com/admin
  2. Login to the Horizon admin console.
    • Username: administrator
    • Password: Pa$$w0rd
    • Domain: OmnissaTraining

In this lab you will use VMware vSphere as the capacity provider, so you will register a vCenter Server as the hypervisor manager.

  1. Start the Add vCenter Server wizard.
    • Navigate to Settings > Servers.
    • Ensure that the vCenter Servers tab is selected.
    • Click ADD.
  2. On the vCenter Information screen:
    • Server address: vcenter01.omnissatraining.com
    • User Name: [email protected]
    • Password: Pa$$w0rd
    • Port: 443
    • Deployment Type: General
    • Click NEXT.
  3. On the Storage screen:
    • Leave the default selections.
    • Click NEXT.
  4. On the Ready to Complete screen:
    • Click SUBMIT.
  5. You should see a confirmation that the vCenter was added.

In this lab, you added a VMware vCenter server. Other supported capacity providers types can be added using the Capacity Providers tab of the Settings > Servers screen.

You can add multiple capacity providers of the same and different types to a single Horizon 8 pod.
