Lab 2: Install a Horizon Connection Server
Objective and Tasks
In this lab, you will deploy the first Horizon Connection Server to establish a new Horizon 8 pod.
- Login to the ControlCenter VM.
- Remote into the Windows Server Horizon-01a.
- Install the Horizon Connection Server.
- Log in to the ControlCenter VM
- Username: OMINISSATRAINING\Administrator
- Password: Pa$$w0rd
- Verify that you are on the main ControlCenter desktop before proceeding.
- Use RDP to connect to horizon-01a
- On your ControlCenter desktop open the rdp folder.
- Click the RDP shortcut to horizon-01a
- This will automatically log you into the horizon-01a VM
Use the RDP session you opened in Task 2 to complete the following steps.
- Run the Connection Server installer executable on horizon-01a
- Open File Explorer on the task bar at the bottom.
- Select the Resources (S:) drive.
- Browse to S:\Software\Horizon_2512
- Run
Omnissa‑Horizon‑Connection‑Server‑x86_64‑2512‑8.17.0‑20302007542.exe
The installer may get hidden behind other Windows. Use the taskbar to select it and bring it to the front.
- Proceed through the initial installation screens.
- The installer will first display a Licensing confirmation message. Click Yes.
- When the Installer Introduction screen appears, click Next.
- Leave the default installation path: C:\Program Files\Omnissa\Horizon\Server, and click Next.
- On the Installation Options screen:
- Ensure that Horizon Standard Server is selected for the Connection Server instance type.
- Ensure that Install Web Client is checked.
- Ensure that IPv4 is selected.
- Click Next.
- On the Horizon Directory Services partition naming screen.
- Select Single Pod Deployment – Operates independently.
- Click Next.

- When prompted for the Data Recovery password.
- Enter: Pa$$w0rd
- Click Next.
- On the Firewall Configuration screen:
- Ensure Configure Windows Firewall automatically is selected.
- Click Next.
- On the Initial Horizon Administrators screen:
- Select Authorize the local Administrators group.
- Click Next.
- On the User Experience Improvement Program prompt, click Next.
- On the Operations Data Collection prompt, click Next.
- On the Ready to Install the Program screen:
- Ensure General is selected.
- Click Install.
The installer will now deploy the Connection Server services and a new AD LDS database instance.
- When the installation completes, uncheck the Show the documentation check box and click Finish.
- Close the RDP session for Horizon-01a.
This completes the installer for the Horizon 8 Connection Server and concludes this lab.
