Lab 24: Using the Horizon console to gather a log bundle
Objective and tasks
In this lab, you will access use the Horizon admin console to gather a log bundle from Horizon components.
- Log in to the Horizon admin console.
- Add a new administrator role with Collect Operations Logs privilege.
- Navigate to the Log Collection feature.
- Create new log collection tasks targeting Connection Servers and Horizon Agents.
- Check the status of the log collection tasks.
- Download and save the generated log bundles (ZIP file).
- Verify that the log bundle contains the expected files.
You will access the Horizon lab environment by logging in to the ControlCenter (Landing Desktop) and then opening the Horizon Administrator Console. From ControlCenter, you will launch the Chrome browser, use the provided bookmark to connect to Horizon‑01a, and sign in to the Horizon Administrator Console.
Completing this task ensures that you are authenticated and ready to begin navigating the Horizon Console for log collection.
- Open the Horizon admin console for horizon-01a.
- On your ControlCenter desktop, open the Google Chrome browser.
- Click the bookmark on the bookmark bar for horizon-01a
- This will connect you to the Horizon administrator console at https://horizon-01a.omnissatraining.com/admin
- Login to the Horizon admin console.
- Username: administrator
- Password: Pa$$w0rd
- Domain: OmnissaTraining
In this lab you will use the Log Collection feature of the Horizon Admin console. Before you can do that, you need add a new administrator role with the Collect Operations Logs privilege.
- Start the Add a Role wizard.
- Navigate to Settings > Administrators.
- Select the Role Privileges tab.
- Click ADD.
- Add a new Role and assign the Manage Certificates privilege.
- Enter LogAdmins as the new role name.
- Scroll down the list of privileges and select Collect Operations Logs.
- Click OK.
- Start the Add Administrators or Permission wizard. You will use this to assign the new role you created to the Administrators group.
- Select the Administrators and Group tab.
- Click ADD.
- On the Select administrators or groups screen:
- Click ADD.
- On the Find Users or Groups click FIND.
- Select the Administrators group and click OK.
- Click NEXT.
- On the Select a role screen:
- Select the newly created LogAdmins role at the bottom of the list.
- Click FINISH.
With the new role now created you now need to log out of Connection Server admin and log back in to pick up the role changes.
- Log out of Horizon admin and log back in for role changes to take effect.
- Click on administrator in the top right corner and select Log Out.
- Login to the Horizon admin console.
- Username: administrator

You will begin the process of generating a Horizon log bundle by creating a new log collection task. From the Log Collection page, you will initiate a new task and select which Horizon components (Connection Servers or Horizon Agents) you want to gather logs from.
- Ensure that you are on the Collect tab.
- Collect logs from Connection Servers.
- Use the Select component type dropdown, to select Connection Server.
- Click SEARCH.
- Select the entry for HORIZON-01A, and click COLLECT.
- Click OK in the Log Collection Status message.
- Collect logs from Horizon Agents.
- Use the Select component type dropdown to select Agent.
- Use the Select pool dropdown to select Win11 Site1.
- Click SEARCH.
- Select the entry for Win11-S1-1, and click COLLECT.
- Click OK in the Log Collection Status message.
The task must reach a Completed status before you can download the log bundle.
- Select the Manage tab.
- This tab displays all log collection tasks and their current status.
- Use the circular arrow to refresh the page.
- Locate your newly created log collection task.
- The log bundle will not be available for download until the status shows a green check icon.
You will download the log bundle generated by the Horizon Console. After the collection task finishes, you will access the completed task entry and download the resulting ZIP file. This file contains the logs needed for troubleshooting and analysis.
- In the Manage tab, find the task whose status shows as a green check icon for Completed.
- This status confirms that Horizon has finished gathering all required diagnostic data.
- Scroll to the far-right side of the task list to the Download column.
- This column contains the link or icon to download the log bundle.
- Click on the file shown in the Download column.
- Your browser will begin downloading the ZIP file that contains the log bundle.
- In the Chrome browser's upper right corner, click the down arrow to view the Recent download history.
You will validate the contents of the downloaded log bundle. By opening the ZIP file and reviewing its folders and log files, you will confirm that the correct diagnostic data was collected. This ensures the log bundle is complete and ready for troubleshooting or escalation.
- Open the downloaded ZIP file.
- Navigate to the folder where your browser saved the log bundle (typically the Downloads folder or your desktop).
- Double‑click the ZIP file to open it.
- Review the folder structure inside the ZIP.
- You should see multiple subfolders representing the collected logs for the chosen Horizon components.
- For example:
- Connection Server logs (e.g., debug logs, Blast logs, PCoIP logs)
- Agent logs (if agent components were selected)
- System information files
- Collection summary or manifest file
- Verify that log files exist in each folder.
- Open one or more of the subfolders.
- Confirm the presence of expected log files.
- Confirm that timestamps or filenames reflect recent log capture.
- Close the ZIP file once verification is complete.
You have now confirmed that the log bundle contains valid troubleshooting data.
