Packaging App Volumes Cloud Applications

Objective and Tasks

Package the App Volumes cloud application in Horizon Cloud:

  1. Create an App Volumes Capture VM
  2. Capture an App Volumes Package
  3. Assign an App Volumes Application
  4. Use Horizon Client to Connect to the Pool
Expand or collapse content Task 1: Create an App Volumes Capture VM

You import images from Microsoft Azure Marketplace so that you can publish them into pool templates.

  1. Go to https://connect.omnissa.com and log in to the Omnissa Cloud Services console.
    • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
    • Password: Omnissa1Omnissa1
    • Om Omnissa Connect page, select Horizon Cloud.
  1. Navigate to App Volumes.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, select Desktop & app catalog.
    • Click App Volumes tab.
    • From the Add drop-down menu, select Package.
  1. Configure the settings on the Add Application page.
    • Application: Select New.
    • Application Name: Enter VLC Player in the text box.
    • Description: Enter VLC Player in the text box.
    • Owner: Enter tadmin in the text box and select Tadmin from the list.
    • Add Package: Turn on the toggle.
    • Package name: Enter VLC Player 2 Package in the text box.
    • Description: Enter VLC Player 2 Package in the text box.
  1. Continue configure the settings on the Add Application page.
    • Horizon Edge: Select your edge from the drop-down menu.
    • Provider: Select your provider from the drop-down menu.
    • Image: Select W11-<student_number><MMDD>B.
    • Image Version: Select 1.0.0.
    • Use outbound proxy: Leave the default value unchanged.
    • Desktop Model: Leave the default value unchanged.
    • Machine Identity: Select techseals.co.
    • Packager: Enter Tadmin in the text box and select tadmin from the list.
    • Delivery: Select Classic.
    • Click Save.
  1. Navigate to Desktop & App catalog> App Volumes.
    • Click VLC Player.
    • The capture machine is ready when Ready for capture appears in the Status column.
    • Expand the Acrobat-10
      • This process takes 5 to 10 minutes.

Two entries with the same AppCapture[####] appear in progress. You must wait until they report as Successful. You can refresh multiple times.

  1. Make a note of VM Name.
    • This is the VM tadmin is entitled as a capturing machine.
Expand or collapse content Task 2: Capture an App Volumes Package

You capture VLC Player in an App Volumes package.

  1. Capture the Application Package.
    • Click the VLC Player 2 Package button.
    • Click Capture.
    • Note: This setting is unavailable until the desktop is ready.
  1. Access Horizon Client.
    • Double-click the Omnissa Horizon Client icon on your desktop.
    • Double-click the cloud.omnissahorizon.com icon.
  1. On the Sign in with SSO page.
    • Enter amerhcsmadm<student_number> in the text box.
    • Click Continue.
    • Workspace ONE Intelligence Hub page opens.
    • From the Select Your Domain drop-down menu, select techseals.co.
    • Click Next.
  1. Log in with the user account that you entitled to desktops and applications.
    • User name: tadmin
    • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • You are redirected back to Horizon Client.
  1. To access a desktop, double-click the appcap[xxx] icon.
    • User name: tadmin
    • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
  1. Verify that the App Volumes - Packaging in Progress message appears on your desktop.

You must not close the message and you must not click OK.

  1. Install VLC Player.
    • Right click on the start menu
    • Go to Run and type \\10.2.1.4\AppVolumes\VLC Playerto open the software repository.
    • Click OK
  1. Right click on vlc-2.0.8 VLC player installer file and select Run as administrator.
    • Install the application with the default settings.
    • Wait for the installation to finish and click Finish.
    • Run the application and verify it is working fine.
  1. Configure App Volumes Package.
    • On the App Volumes - Packaging in Progress page, click OK.
    • Click Yes to confirm the installation.
    • The App Volumes - Finalize Package page opens.
    • In the Finalize Application window, configure the name, version, and notes.
      • Name: Enter VLC Media Player 2.0.8 in the text box.
      • Version: Leave the default option unchanged.
      • Notes: Enter VLC Player packaged on Microsoft Azure VM in the text box.
    • Click Finalize.
    • On the Restart required dialog box, click OK.
  1. Wait for the restart and reconnect using Horizon Client.
    • After you log back in to the VM, the Finalizing Package... message appears.
    • Wait for the Packaging Successful! message to appear.
    • To finish the packaging stage, click OK.
    • Sign Out from appcap[xxx] VM.
  1. Sign Out from Horizon Client.
    • Select Tadmin.
    • Click Sing out.
    • Return to Horizon Cloud console.
  1. Navigate to App Volumes application
    • From the left navigation pane, select Desktops & app catalog.
    • Click the App Volumes tab.
    • Under Application Name, select VLC Player.
  1. Set Current Marker.
    • From the MARKERS drop-down menu, select Set Current.
    • In the Set Current pop-up, click Set.
  1. Select VLC Player 2 Package and from the STAGE drop-down menu, select Published.
  1. To view information about the package, click >>.
    • View to the applications installed details.
Expand or collapse content Task 3: Assign an App Volumes Application

You entitle users with Adobe Acrobat 10 application.

  1. Go to https://connect.omnissa.com and log in to the Omnissa Cloud Services console.
    • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
    • Password: Omnissa1Omnissa1
    • OnOmnissa Connect page, select Horizon Cloud.
  1. Entitle a DEM user to the desktop pool.
    • From the left navigation pane, selectDesktop App Catalog.
    • Click the App Volumes tab.
    • Select the VLC Player check box.
    • From theEntitlementsdrop-down menu, selectEntitle.
    • Entitle App Volumes page opens.
  1. On the entitle App Volumes page.
    • Enter <hcsmadm<student_number> in the Add user/user groups search text box, select the user from the results, and assign the application to the user.
    • Click Next.
  1. In the Entitle App Volumes window
    • Click Save.
    • Refresh the App Volumes tab until 1 appears under Entitlements.
Expand or collapse content Task 4: Use Horizon Client to Connect to the Pool

You test the connectivity to the single-session pool using Horizon Client. You connect to both a desktop session and an application session.

  1. Access Horizon Client.
    • Double-click the cloud.omnissahorizon.com icon.
    • Omnissa Horizon SSO page open on your default browser.
  1. On the Sign in with SSO page.
    • Enter amerhcsmadm<student_number> in the text box.
    • Click Continue.
    • Workspace ONE Intelligence Hub page opens.
    • From the Select Your Domain drop-down menu, select techseals.co.
    • Click NEXT.
  1. Log in with the user account that you entitled to desktops and applications.
    • User name: hcsmadm<student_number>
    • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • You are redirected back to Horizon Client.
  1. Access the Desktop.
    • To access a desktop, double-click the Floating Windows 11 Pool icon.
  1. Double-click VCL media player to verify that it can connect.
    • Verify that Adobe Acrobat works.
    • You can also verify CVApps disk attached in the disk management
      • To Do So:
        • Open CMD as admin.
        • Username hcsmaadmin
        • Password Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
        • Type diskmgmt and press Enter.
    • Close the Horizon Client window to close the session.
