Updating a Multi-Session Pool Group in Horizon Cloud

Objective and Tasks

Build and use images to create VDI desktop assignments:

  1. Use Copy as Image Version to Update Windows Server 2019
  2. Move the Marker
  3. Use Horizon Client to Connect to the Pool
Task 1: Use Copy as Image Version to Update Windows Server 2019

You import images from Microsoft Azure Marketplace so that you can publish them into pool templates.

  1. Go to https://connect.omnissa.com and log in to the Omnissa Cloud Services console.
    • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
    • Password: Omnissa1Omnissa1
    • In Omnissa Connect page
      • Under Horizon Cloud, click LAUNCH.
  1. Edit Multi-Session Image.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, select Resources > Images.
    • Click W22-<student_number><MMDD>A.
    • Click 1.0.0.
    • From the PUBLISHED drop-down menu, select Copy as Image Version.
  1. In the General Information page.
    • Version Type: Major
    • Description: Enter Installed Chrome.
    • Marker: The Markers value must be left blank.
    • Leave the other options unchanged and click NEXT.
  1. Configure the settings under Network.
    • Enable Public IP: Leave the other options unchanged.
    • From the Virtual Network drop-down menu, select your Azure Virtual Network (VNet).
    • Under Select Network, select the VMs subnet.
    • Leave the other options unchanged and click SAVE.
    • The image takes about 3 to 5 minutes before it is ready.
    • Once ready a notification will popup Image Copied
  1. Login to Multi-Session VM.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, select Virtual machines.
    • Click W22-<student_number><MMDD>A-2-0-0.
    • Click Connect and navigate to Bastion.
      • Authentication Type: VM Password
      • User name: hcsmaadmin
      • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • Click Connect.
  1. Navigate to Software share folder.
    • Right-click the Windows Start menu icon.
    • Select Run.
    • Enter \\10.2.1.4\Software in the Open box.
    • Click OK.
  1. Install Chrome.
    • On the Software folder, right-click ChromeSetup file.
    • Select as Run as administrator.
    • Install Chrome using the default settings.
  1. After chrome installation verify
    • Lunch is working
    • Close the browser.
    • Switch back to Horizon Cloud Page.
  1. Publish an Image.
    • If needed, log in to Omnissa Cloud Services console.
      • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
      • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • Under Workspace ONE Cloud, click LAUNCH SERVICE.
    • Under Horizon Cloud Service, click MANAGE.
    • In the left navigation pane, select Resources Images.
    • Select W22-<student_number><MMDD>A.
    • On the Versions page, select 2.0.0.
    • From the Unpublished drop-down menu, select Publish.
  1. On the Publish Image page.
    • Under Destination, leave the options unchanged and click NEXT.
    • Under Properties, leave the options unchanged and click NEXT.
    • Under Horizon Agent Features, turn on the App Volumes, Geolocation Redirection, and USB Redirection toggles.
    • Leave the other options unchanged and click NEXT.
  1. On the Published Image Operations page.
    • Leave the options unchanged and click PUBLISH.
    • Refresh the page until Available appears under Status.

Note: This process takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Do not continue to the next step until the image is published.  

Task 2: Move the Marker

You update the multi-session pool.

  1. Go to https://connect.omnissa.com and log in to the Omnissa Cloud Services console.
    • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
    • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • Under Workspace ONE Cloud, click LAUNCH SERVICE.
    • Under Horizon Cloud, click LAUNCH.
  1. Select version of the image.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, select Resources > Images.
    • Select W22-<student_number><MMDD>A.
    • Click 2.0.0
    • Click EDIT.
  1. Select Markers.
    • On the Edit Version page, select Multi-Session-UAT from the Markers (optional) drop-down menu.
    • Click SAVE.
  1. Monitor the pool update.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, select Resources > Pools.
    • Click W22-MS-<student_number>Pool.
    • Select the VMs tab.
    • Monitor the pool update by refreshing the page until Provisioned appears in the Lifecycle Status column.
    • This process should take about 2 to 5 minutes.
Task 3: Use Horizon Client to Connect to the Pool

You test the connectivity to the multi-session pool using Horizon Client. You connect to both a desktop session and an application session.

  1. Access Horizon Client.
    • Double-click the cloud.omnissahorizon.com icon .
    • Omnissa Horizon SSO page open on your default browser.
  1. On the Sign in with SSO page.
    • Enter amerhcsmadm<student_number> in the text box.
    • Click Continue.
    • Workspace ONE Intelligence Hub page opens.
    • From the Select Your Domain drop-down menu, select techseals.co.
    • Click NEXT.
    • Log in with the user account that you entitled to desktops and applications.
      • User name: hcsmadm<student_number>
      • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • You are redirected back to Horizon Client.
  1. Access the Desktop.
    • To access a desktop, double-click the Multi-Session Win2022 Pool icon.
    • After you are connected to the Windows 11 OS, double-click the Chrome shortcut to verify that it can connect.
    • After you verify that it works, close the session by selecting See more (...) > Logoff Desktop.
    • Click OK to confirm.
