Updating Single-Session Pools in Horizon Cloud

Objective and Tasks

Update the image used for VDI desktop assignments in Horizon Cloud Service on Microsoft Azure:

  1. Update a Version Using Copy as Image
  2. Install Chrome on the New Image
  3. Modify a Pool
  4. Use Horizon Client to Connect to the Pool
Task 1: Update a Version Using Copy as Image

You import images from Microsoft Azure Marketplace so that you can publish them into pool templates.

  1. Go to https://connect.omnissa.com and log in to the Omnissa Cloud Services console.
    • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
    • Password: Omnissa1Omnissa1
    • Under Workspace ONE Cloud, click LAUNCH SERVICE.
    • Under Horizon Cloud, click LAUNCH.
  1. Create an Image.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, select Resource > Images.
    • Click W11-<student_number><MMDD>A.
    • Click 1.0.0.
    • From the PUBLISHED drop-down menu, select Copy as Image.
  1. Configure the settings on the Copy as Image  W11-New-<student_number> page.
    • Image Name: Enter W11-<student_number><MMDD>B in the text box.
    • Description: Enter Production version of image including Chrome installation in the text box.
    • Markers: Remove the default marker by click X & Enter Production in the text box and press Enter.
    • Click NEXT.
    • Network page opens.
  1. Configure the Network page.
    • Enable Public IP: Leave the default options unchanged.
    • From the Virtual Network drop-down menu, select your Azure Virtual Network (VNet) from.
    • Under Select Network, select the VMs subnet.
    • Click SAVE.
  1. Monitor the progress until the image creation is complete.
    • From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Images.
    • Refresh the page until Ready to Publish appears in the Status column next to the new image.
Task 2: Install Chrome on the New Image

You install Chrome on the new image.

  1. Log in to Microsoft Azure.
    • User name: <company>.<full_name>.<student_number>
    • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • From the left navigation pane, select Virtual machines.
    • Click W11-<student_number><MMDD>B-1-0-0.
    • Click Connect and navigate to Bastion.
      • Authentication Type: VM Password
      • User name: hcsmaadmin
      • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • Click Connect.
  1. Navigate to Software share folder.
    • Right-click the Windows Start menu icon.
    • Select Run.
    • Enter \\10.2.1.4\Software in the Open box.
    • Click OK.
  1. Install Chrome.
    • On the Software folder, right-click ChromeSetup file.
    • Select as Run as administrator.
    • Install Chrome using the default settings.
  1. After chrome installation verify
    • Lunch is working
    • Once verified, close the browser
  1. Publish an Image.
    • If needed, log in to Omnissa Cloud Services console.
      • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
      • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • Under Workspace ONE Cloud, click LAUNCH SERVICE.
    • Under Horizon Cloud Service, click MANAGE.
    • In the left navigation pane, select Resources Images.
    • Select W11-<student_number><MMDD>B.
    • On the Versions page, select 1.0.0.
    • From the Unpublished drop-down menu, select Publish.
  1. On the Publish Image page.
    • Under Destination, leave the options unchanged and click NEXT.
    • Under Properties, leave the options unchanged and click NEXT.
    • Under Horizon Agent Features, turn on the App Volumes, Geolocation Redirection, and USB Redirection toggles.
    • Leave the other options unchanged and click NEXT.
  1. On the Published Image Operations page.
    • Leave the options unchanged and click PUBLISH.
    • Refresh the page until Available appears under Status.

Note: This process takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Do not continue to the next step until the image is published.  

Task 3: Modify a Pool

You adjust a pool to use a new image.

  1. Go to https://connect.omnissa.com and log in to the Omnissa Cloud Services console.
    • User name: horizonseals<student_number>@techseals.co
    • Password: Omnissa1Omnissa1
    • Under Workspace ONE Cloud, click LAUNCH SERVICE.
    • Under Horizon Cloud, click LAUNCH.
  1. Edit a Pool.
    • From the left navigation pane, select Resources > Pools.
    • Select the Floating-<student_number> check box.
    • Click EDIT.
    • Edit Pool page opens.
  1. Configure the settings on the Edit Pool page.
    • Generation type: Select V2
    • Image: Select W11-<student_number><MMDD>B.
    • Markers: Select Production.
    • Leave all as default and click NEXT.
    • On the Networks page, leave all as default and click NEXT.
    • On the Dynamic Environment Manager page, click SAVE.
  1. Verify that the update becomes available.
    • From the left navigation page, select Resources > Pools.
    • Click Floating-<student_number>.
    • Click the VMs tab and refresh the page until Agent Status changes to Available.  
Task 4: Use Horizon Client to Connect to the Pool

You test the connectivity to the single-session pool using Horizon Client. You connect to both a desktop session and an application session.

  1. Access Horizon Client.
    • Double-click the cloud.omnissahorizon.com icon .
    • Omnissa Horizon SSO page open on your default browser.
  1. On the Sign in with SSO page.
    • Enter amerhcsmadm<student_number> in the text box.
    • Click Continue.
    • Workspace ONE Intelligence Hub page opens.
    • From the Select Your Domain drop-down menu, select techseals.co.
    • Click NEXT.
    • Log in with the user account that you entitled to desktops and applications.
      • User name: hcsmadm<student_number>
      • Password: Omnissa1!Omnissa1!
    • You are redirected back to Horizon Client.
  1. Access the Desktop.
    • To access a desktop, double-click the Floating Windows 11 Pool icon.
    • After you are connected to the Windows 11 OS, double-click the Chrome shortcut to verify that it can connect.
    • After you verify that it works, close the session by selecting See more (...) > Logoff Desktop.
    • Click OK to confirm.
