Lab 3: Gather Horizon Client Logs

Objective and Tasks
In this lab, you gather Horizon Agent logs directly from the Horizon Agent VM and the Horizon Connection Server:

  1. Gather Horizon Client Logs using the Command Line
  2. Review Horizon Client Logs
  3. Gather Logs using Horizon Client
Task 1: Gather Horizon Client Logs using the Command Line

In this task, you collect the Horizon Client logs using the command line.

  1. Log in to the ControlCenter desktop:  
    • User name: administrator
    • Password: Pa$$w0rd
  2. On the ControlCenter desktop, open a command prompt
    • NOTE: As the Horizon Client is installed on this VM, the logs can be gathered from here directly.
  3. To navigate to the root directory, enter the command
    • cd /
  4. To navigate to the DCT directory, enter the command:
    • cd "Program Files\Omnissa\Omnissa Horizon Client\DCT"
  5. Enter the command
    • support.bat
    • NOTE: The logs can take several minutes to generate.

             You might have to press Enter several times if your log collection appears to be frozen.

  1. When prompted, Enter N for the dump files to be gathered.
    • The dump files are not needed for this task and slow down the log gathering process.
  2. Press any key to continue
  3. When you are finished, a folder called horizon-sdct is created on the ControlCenter desktop
Task 2: Review Horizon Client Logs

In this task, you locate and review the Horizon Clients Logs collected using the command line.

  1. From the ControlCenter desktop, open the horizon-sdct folder located on the desktop.
  2. Right-click the zipped log file:
    • Select Extract All.
    • Make sure Show extracted files when complete check box is selected.
    • Select Extract

NOTE: If you see an error message during extraction, select the check box "Do this for all current items" and click Skip to continue.

  1. Double-click the extracted file and navigate to hzn-logs.
    • Open the latest debug-xxx.txt file
    • Review the first lines of the debug.txt file.

These lines confirm that you have successfully captured the Horizon Client logs, including the name of the client VM

Task 3: Gather Logs using Horizon Client

In this task, you collect the Horizon Client logs using Horizon Client installed in the ControlCenter desktop.

  1. On the ControlCenter desktop, double-click the Omnissa Horizon Client icon.
  2. Click the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner of the Horizon Client window.
  3. Click About Omnissa Horizon Client.
  4. Click Collect Support Data.
    • A confirmation dialog box opens.
  5. Click Yes
    • Note: This process may take several minutes to complete.
  6. When prompted, enter N to skip gathering dump files.
    • Dump files are not needed and will slow down the process
  7. Press any key to Continue
  8. The logs will be saved in the previously created horizon-sdct folder on the desktop:
    • You will see a new ZIP file with the same name format as the first one.
    • Use the timestamp to identify the latest log bundle.
  9. To close the About Omnissa Horizon Client window, click OK.
  10. Close the Omnissa Horizon Client window.
  11. Close any Command Prompt windows that were opened.
