Lab 7: Troubleshooting Apple device management
Introduction
Workspace ONE offers various options for troubleshooting issues with managed Apple devices. In this series of exercises, you’ll delve into the logs accessible to administrators to identify the root causes of problems.
Objectives and Tasks
Review the events logs.
Review the Troubleshooting log for an enrolled device.
Send device logs to the Workspace ONE console.
Task 1: Review the events logs
Console events record actions taken from the Workspace ONE UEM console, including login sessions, failed login attempts, administrative actions, system settings changes, and user preferences.
To review the console events:
In the Workspace ONE console, navigate to Monitor.
Click Console Events.
Click the Filter icon.
Change the Date & Time filter to Last Seven Days.
Click Apply.
Scroll through the list of console events. Look for entries from many of the tasks you completed in earlier labs, such as profile creation, script and sensor creation, and others.
Select Device Events.
Click the Filter icon.
Change the Date & Time filter to Last Seven Days.
Click Apply.
Scroll through the list of device events.
Click the Filter icon again.
Leave the Date & Time as it is, and change the Severity to Notice and above.
Click Apply.
Scroll through the updated list of events.
Use the Filter icon to change the filter to only see messages with a severity level of warning.
Task 2: Review the Troubleshooting log for an enrolled device
The Troubleshooting tab provides administrators with access to the event log and commands logging information for the device. The event log offers detailed debug information about device-server interactions, including communication sent and responses. Events can be filtered by Event Group Type, Date Range, Severity, Module, and Category.
To review the Troubleshooting log:
In the Workspace ONE console, navigate to Devices. Select Devices.
Click on your enrolled device.
Select the More menu and click on Troubleshooting.
Scroll through the list of entries. Look for entries from many of the tasks you performed throughout the labs.
Click Filter.
Click Event Action. Scroll through the list and click on Authentication beneath Security.
Review the filtered entries.
Task 3: Send device logs to the Workspace ONE console
End users can generate and send logs from their devices to Workspace ONE.
To send logs to the Workspace ONE console:
On your enrolled iOS device, launch the Intelligent Hub app.
Click Support.
Select Send Logs to Console.
In the Workspace ONE console, select Devices and then Devices.
Click on your enrolled device.
Click the More menu and select Attachments.
Click the Documents tab.
Click the topmost zip file to download it to your desktop.
Using the app of your choice, unzip the file and open the newly created text file.
