Lab 2: Creating Assignment Groups and enrolling a device

Introduction

This lab contains five tasks that guide you through the process of creating assignment groups, which will be required in later labs. It will also walk you through enrolling a device into Workspace ONE UEM.

This lab presumes you have access to an iOS device that can be enrolled in the Workspace ONE UEM lab environment. The tasks in this lab, as well as those in the future, are specifically designed for iOS devices. Some tasks are applicable to both iOS and macOS. In most cases, the steps required for each operating system are the same. However, when the steps differ, an optional task provides instructions for macOS.

Objectives and Tasks

  1. Create a new assignment group for iOS devices.

  2. Create a new assignment group for macOS devices (optional).

  3. Download the Intelligent Hub to an iOS device.

  4. Enroll an iOS device in Workspace ONE UEM.

  5. Download the Intelligent Hub and enroll a macOS device (optional).

Task 1: Create a new assignment group for iOS devices

To create and configure the Smart Group:

  1. In the Workspace ONE UEM console, select Groups & Settings.

  2. Under Groups. Select Assignment Groups, and then click Add Smart Group.

  3. For the group name, enter Corporate-owned iOS Devices.

  4. From the list of available criteria, expand Ownership, click Selected, and ensure that Corporate is the only item with a check mark.

  5. Expand Platform and Operating System, and from the drop down, select Apple iOS.

  6. Click Save.

Task 2: Create a new assignment group for macOS devices (optional)

To create and configure the Smart Group:

  1. In the Workspace ONE UEM console, select Groups & Settings.

  2. Select Assignment Groups, and then click Add Smart Group.

  3. For the group name, enter Corporate-owned macOS Devices.

  4. From the list of available criteria, expand Ownership, click Selected, and ensure that Corporate is the only item with a check mark.

  5. Expand Platform and Operating System, and from the drop down, select Apple macOS.

  6. Click Save.

Task 3: Download the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub app to an iOS device

Omnissa Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub is an application that provides a secure digital workspace to employees on any device, anywhere. It serves as a central hub where employees can access all the necessary tools and resources to be productive.

To download the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub to an iOS device:

  1. Launch the Apple App Store.

  2. In the search bar, type Intelligent Hub. Press Search.

  3. In the search results, click the Get button to download the Intelligent Hub to the device.

  1. The Intelligent Hub app will begin downloading onto the device.

Task 4: Enroll an iOS device in Workspace ONE UEM

To enroll an iOS device into Workspace ONE UEM:

  1. Launch the Intelligent Hub app..

  2. When prompted, enter the Server name for the Workspace ONE UEM lab environment. Click Next.

  3. When prompted, enter the Group ID for your lab environment. Click Next.

  4. Enter jstark as the username and Omnissa123! as the password. Click Sign In.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. Click Download Profile.

  7. If prompted to allow Hub to send notifications, click Allow.

  8. A pop-up will appear stating, "This website is trying to download a configuration profile. Do you want to allow this?" Click Allow.

  1. Click Close.

  2. On the Steps to download profile page, click Tap here when download finishes.

  3. Click Install profile.

  4. Click Open the Settings app to launch the Settings app and install the management profile.

  5. In Settings, select General and then VPN & Device Management.

  6. Look for a downloaded profile called, Workspace Services.

  7. Click the downloaded profile and select Install.

  1. If prompted, enter the device passcode.

  2. You might receive two or more warnings that the profile is not signed. Click Install on each warning.

  3. A Remote Management pop-up will ask, "Do you trust this profile's source to enroll your device into remote management?" Click Trust.

  4. Click Done.

  5. Return to the Intelligent Hub app and click Take me to Hub.

  6. In the Workspace ONE UEM console, click on Devices in the left-hand column and then Devices. You should see your device now enrolled.

Task 5: Download the Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub and enroll a macOS device (optional)

To download Intelligent Hub for a macOS device:

  1. On your macOS device, open an Internet Browser (i.e. Safari, Google Chrome, etc.)

  2. Navigate to https://www.getwsone.com.

  3. Click Download Hub.

  4. Once the download is complete, launch the WorkspaceOneIntelligentHub.pkg file.

  5. Follow the prompts to install Intelligent Hub.

  6. Once the installation completes, wait for the Intelligent Hub app to launch.

  7. When prompted, enter server address of your lab environment. In this exercise, the address is cn2225.awmdm.com. Click Next.

  8. When prompted, enter your Group ID. For this exercise, your Group ID is student{labid}. Click Next.

  9. At the login screen, enter jstark for the username, and Omnissa123! as the password.

  10. Click Sign In.

  11. The Workspace Services screen will appear. Click Next.

  12. You will be prompted to review the newly downloaded profile. Click Ok.

  13. The Systems Settings app will launch. Double-click on the Workplace Services profile. 

  14. When prompted with "Are you sure you want to install this profile," click Install.

  1. Click Install.

  2. You will need to enter your account password. This is the local account on your device. Click Enroll.

  3. When the enrollment process completes, click Done.
