14. Configuring Print and Client Drive Redirection

As a minimum requirement, you must complete Lab 2 and Lab 6 before staring this lab.

Objectives

You configure and verify integrated print and client drive redirection:

Task 1. Verifying Print and Client Drive Redirection Agent Features
  1. On your ControlCenter server
    • Open your Site 1-Bangalore browser
  1. On your Site 1 Browser
    • Favourites Bar
      • select the vCenter -01a shortcut
  1. On your VMware vSphere login
    • in the Username area
    • in the Password area
      • enter Pa$$w0rd
    • select LOGIN
  1. In the vCenter console
    • under the Hosts & Cluster view
      • next to the Bangalore Datacenter icon
        • expand the inventory
      • at the bottom of the inventory
        • select and right click W11INSTMaster
          • select Power > Power On
  1. In the vCenter console
  • W11INSTMaster pane
    • Summary Tab
      • select LAUNCH WEB CONSOLE
  1. In the Site 1 Chrome browser
    • on the W11INSTMaster tab
      • in the right corner
        • select Send Ctrl+Alt+Delete
      • in the password area
        • enter Pa$$w0rd
      • select Submit
  1. On the W11INSTMaster desktop
    • select and right-click the START button
      • from the pop-up
        • select Run
  1. In the Run window
    • next to Open:
      • enter regedit.exe
        • select OK
  1. In the Registry Editor
    • Expand HKEY _LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Omnissa. > Installer > Features_HorizonAgent
  1. In the Registry Editor
    • In the right pane
      • notice that ClientDriveRedirection is set to Local
      • notice that PrintRedir (Print Redirection) is set to Local
      • Close the Registry Editor
      • minimize your W11Client-01a RDP session

    • switch to W11Client-01a

  1. In the Open File - Security Warning window
    • select Run

      • enter administrator

    • next to I accept the agreement
      • select the radio button
    • select Next

Section 2: Validating Printer Redirection

    • Open your existing Chrome browser session
      • in the Web Intelligent Hub
        • under New Apps
        • double click Enterprise_Desktop
      • on the Open Omnissa Horizon Client? window
        • select Open Omnissa Horizon Client
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • Horizon Virtual Desktop session
      • to the right of the START button
        • in the Search area
          • enter Control
      • in the pop-up
        • In the Control Panel area
          • select Open
  1. In Control Panel
    • under Hardware and Sound
      • select View devices and printers
  1. Under Bluetooth & devices
    • to the right of Printers & scanners
      • select the expand icon
  1. Under Printers & scanners
    • to the right of PDF24 (vdi)
      • select the expand icon
  1. Under PDF24 (vdi) area
    • to the right of PDF24 (vdi)
      • select Set as default
  1. Under PDF24 (vdi) area
    • below  PDF24 (vdi)
      • to the right of Printer status:
        • validate that it is Default
      • Close the PD24(vdi) window
      • Close the Control Panel window
  1. On the Horizon Virtual Desktop session
    • select and double click the Microsoft Edge shortcut
  1. On your Horizon Virtual Desktop session
    • Edge Browser
      • in the address bar
        • enter https://techzone.omnissa.com
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • Horizon Virtual Desktop session
      • Edge Browser
        • In the right-corner
          • select the Settings and more icon ( 3 dots )
            • from the dropdown
              • select Print
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • Horizon Virtual Desktop session
      • Edge Browser > Print Menu
        • below Printer
          • note the Printer is PDF24 (vdi) is default
            • select Print

Note now it gets tricky

Notice you have a pop up in front of you called PDF24 Assistant

  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • minimize  the Edge Browser
    • minimize the Horizon Client session
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • note that PDF Assistant has launched on the Horizon client side
      • In the PDF Assistant window
        • under Name
          • notice that you have a reference to Omnissa_Techzone
        • to the right
    • select Save as PDF
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • Save As window
      • note the default save location is your Desktop
    • on the bottom right corner
      • select Save
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • note there now an Omnissa Techzone PDF file
      • double click the Omnissa Techzone PDF file
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • In the Select an app to open this .pdf file window
      • select Google Chrome
        • select Always
  1. On your W11client-01a desktop
    • in Google Chrome
      • notice the PDF file

    • from the Taskbar
      • select the File Explorer shortcut
  1. In the File Explorer window
    • In the Quick Access bar
      • select This PC
        • In the right pane
          • select and double-click  Local Disk (C:)
        • In the open white area
          • select and right-click
            • from the drop-down menu
              • select New > Folder
  1. In the File Explorer window
    • Local Disk (C:) area
      • In the folder name
        • enter TestClientDrive
          • select ENTER
  1. In the File Explorer window
    • Local Disk (C:) area
      • select and open the Testclientdrive
      • In the Testclientdrive folder
        • select and right-click
          • from the drop-down
            • select New > Text Document

    • In the Testclientdrive folder
      • enter name for the TXT document
        • with YOUR NAME
      • minimise the File Explorer window

      • Note the File document you created

      • next to Exit Fullscreen
    • select the See More icon (3 dots)
      • from the dropdown
        • select Logoff Desktop
    • In the Disconnect and log off desktop? window
      • select OK
