Lab 01: Integrate App Volumes Manager with Horizon 8

Objective and Tasks

This lab will take you through the steps to integrate the new App Volumes Manager server to an existing Horizon 8 environment. This will allow Horizon Administrators to associate an App Volumes Manager with an existing RDS Farm, installed with the App Volumes Agent, to assign App Volumes Application Packages directly to the RDS farm. Once done, the RDS farm can be queried for App Volumes Applications that can be published as RDS Published Applications assigned On-Demand from App Volumes, when an assigned user launches the application.

  1. Log into the Horizon Admin Console
  2. Add the App Volumes Manager Server
  3. Validate App Volumes Applications are listed within the Horizon 8 Admin console

Open the Chrome Browser, user the shortcut in the bookmark bar to connect to horizon-02a. Accept any notifications presented at the logon screen.

  1. Open the Horizon admin console for horizon-02a.
  2. Log in to the Horizon admin console.
  3. Username: administrator
  4. Password : Pa$$w0rd
  5. Domain: OmnissaTraining
  6. Click SIGN IN

Add the App Volumes Manager Server and accept its certificate.

  1. In the Horizon Admin UI, from the left navigation pane, scroll down to the Settings > Servers section.
    • Click on Servers
    • Click on the App Volumes Managers tab in the center
    • Click on the ADD button, and provide the details below:
    • Server Address: appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com
    • Port: 443
    • User Name: administrator
    • Password: Pa$$w0rd
    • Click the OK button
  2. With the App Volumes Manager added successfully, push the Horizon certificate to the App Volumes Manager.
    • Select the radio button next to the App Volumes Manager appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com
    • Select the CERTIFICATE drop-down
    • Select and click on the Push Certificate option
    • Accept the Push Certificate confirmation by clicking on the OK button
    • A success confirmation is presented within the Admin UI

To validate App Volumes applications listing within the Horizon 8 Admin console, associate the newly added App Volumes Manager to an existing RDS Farm, followed by viewing the App Volumes Applications listed under the Applications section.

  1. Within the Horizon admin console for horizon-02a.
    • You should already have this open from a previous task.
  2. Navigate to Inventory > Farms
    • An existing RDS Farm RDSFarmS2 is available
    • Select the checkbox next to RDSFarmS2
    • Click on the MORE COMMANDS drop down and select Associate App Volumes Manager
    • In the pop-up window, select the appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com from the drop down menu listing the App Volumes Managers
    • Click OK
    • Observe the successful confirmation on screen.
  3. Navigate to Inventory > Applications
    • Click on ADD button under the Application Pools
    • Select Add from App Volumes Manager
    • Listed is the RDS Farm RDSFarmS2 and associated App Volumes Manager appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com
  4. Review the listed App Volumes Application enumerated from the App Volumes Manager, within the Horizon Admin console
    • We see under 'Select App Volumes Manager Applications', is the 'Notepad++ 8.9.1' package
    • Click on the CANCEL button
    • Click the OK button on the confirmation screen.

This concludes this lab to integrate the deployed App Volumes Manager, and enumerating the App Volumes package Notepad++ within the Horizon Admin console. Next set of labs will include installing the App Volumes agent and testing App Volumes Published Apps on Demand capabilities.
