Lab 01: Integrate App Volumes Manager with Horizon 8

Important information:

At the launch of this lab make sure to copy the browser URL to this launched lab session to a notepad on your desktop. In the event the browser tab closes or encounter a network drop, you can use the URL to gain access to the lab session and resume.

Objective and Tasks

Integrate a new App Volumes Manager with an existing Horizon 8 environment to enable publishing App Volumes applications through an RDS Farm.

Tasks

  1. Log in to the Horizon Admin Console.
  2. Add the App Volumes Manager server.
  3. Associate the App Volumes Manager to a Farm and add an App Volumes Application

All tasks within this lab will be carried out from within the ControlCenter VM

  1. Connect to the ControlCenter virtual machine
    • On the top-right corner of the screen, click on the Resources tab
    • Click to select or ensure the ControlCenter VM is highlighted and selected
    • Log into the ControlCenter VM by clicking on the CTRL+ALT+Delete button
    • Select the password field and login with Pa$$w0rd , hit the Enter key
  2. Once logged into the ControlCenter VM, open the Horizon admin console for Horizon-02a
    • Launch the Google Chrome browser from the Desktop
    • Open a new browser tab and click the bookmark on the bookmark bar for Horizon-02a
    • This will connect you to the Horizon administrator console at https://horizon-02a.omnissatraining.com/admin
  3. Log in to the Horizon admin console.
    • Username: administrator
    • Password : Pa$$w0rd
    • Domain: OmnissaTraining
    • Click SIGN IN
Expand or collapse content Task 2: Add the App Volumes Manager Server

Add the App Volumes Manager Server and push the Horizon certificate.

  1. In the Horizon Admin UI, scroll down the left navigation pane to the Settings > Servers section.
    • Click on Servers
    • Click the App Volumes Managers tab in the center
    • Click the ADD button, and provide the following details;
      • Server Address: appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com
      • Port: 443
      • User Name: administrator
      • Password: Pa$$w0rd
      • Click the OK button
      • A success confirmation is presented within the Admin UI
  2. With the App Volumes Manager added successfully, push the Horizon certificate to the App Volumes Manager.
    • Select the radio button next to the appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com
    • Select the CERTIFICATE drop-down
    • Select and click on the Push Certificate option
    • Accept the Push Certificate confirmation by clicking on the OK button
    • A success confirmation is presented within the Admin UI
Expand or collapse content Task 3: Associate the App Volumes Manager to a Farm and add an App Volumes Application within the Horizon 8 Admin console

To validate App Volumes applications listing within the Horizon 8 Admin console, associate the newly added App Volumes Manager to an existing RDS Farm, followed by viewing the App Volumes Applications listed under the Applications section.

  1. Associate the newly registered App Volumes to an existing RDS Farm
    • From the left navigation pane navigate to Inventory > Farms
    • Locate and select the checkbox next to the existing RDS Farm RDSFarmS2
    • Select the MORE COMMANDS drop down and click on Associate App Volumes Manager
    • Select the appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com from the drop down menu listing the App Volumes Managers
    • Click OK
    • Observe the successful confirmation on screen.
  2. Validate and assign an App Volumes application listed in the Applications section of the Horizon Admin console
    • Navigate to Inventory > Applications
    • Below the Application Pools, click the ADD button
    • Select Add from App Volumes Manager
  3. View the listed App Volumes Manager Applications associated to this  RDS Farm RDSFarmS2, associated with App Volumes Manager appvol-02a.omnissatraining.com
    • App Volumes application Notepad++ version 8.9.1 is listed
  1. Add the App Volumes application to the RDS Farm
    • Select the checkbox next to Notepad++
    • Click on NEXT
    • Change the ID from 'Notepad' to 'AppVol-NotepadPP'
    • Change the Display Name from 'Notepad++' to 'Notepad++(AV)'
    • Click on SUBMIT
  2. Add Horizon-Students AD user group as an Horizon Entitlement
    • Click on ADD
    • Type Horizon-Students next to the Name/User Name field
    • Click FIND
    • Select the AD group and click the OK button
    • Select OK again in the Add Entitlement screen
    • A successful confirmation is provided and the below screenshot shows the desired outcome

Horizon will enumerate only packages from App Volumes that have enabled and set the package marker state to CURRENT.

  1. Make an administrative change for this lab to the Native App - NotepadS2 application
    • Select the checkbox next to NotepadS2
    • Click on EDIT
    • Scroll down and uncheck 'Pre-Launch'
    • Click on SUBMIT

This concludes this lab to integrate the App Volumes Manager, associate and assign the App Volumes package Notepad++ from the Horizon Admin console.
