Validate the details under the Programs

  1. From the App Volumes Admin console, explore the Applications section, review the listed application and its properties
    • Click on the Inventory > Applications tab
  2. Expand the Notepad++ application (np++), validate the current assignment state. Go ahead an configure an assignment
    • Click the expansion arrow next to the application (np++)
  • We can confirm that Notepad++ has: '0 Assignments'

To edit the owner of the application, expand the target application and click on 'EDIT' button to change the application owner.
You can also enable/disable the RDS Package attachment option. This option specifies if multiple packages of an application can be attached to the same multi-session Remote Desktop Service.

  1. Next explore the Packages tab
    • Click on the Inventory > Packages tab
    • Expand the Notepad++ package (np-8-9-1)
    • Make a note of the 'Stage', 'Status', 'Format' columns
    • Additional Package level properties
      • Package Delivery type is On-demand (Options available are Classic or On-demand)
      • Template used to build the package
      • Agent version the package was captured with
      • Storage Location of the stored package files (VHD, MSI or VMDK and the JSON files)
  2. When a new package is captured, the Marker is not defined, and has to be manually set by the Admin
    • Observe the state of the Marker is set to CURRENT
    • Clicking on EDIT, will allow the administrator to change the Package properties such as;
      • Delivery type (Classic or On-demand)
      • Define the Stage of this package in its life-cycle (starting with NEW)
      • Additional properties include a notes section and Prompt for Feedback
      • Click on the Packages tab to go back without making a change to the package properties

Apps on Demand requires the App Volumes Package to be delivered at a user's app launch request and not pre-attached to the Windows endpoint at user logon. The package property set to 'Delivery Type = On-demand' ensures the application will be delivered on-demand.

If an application has multiple packages, click on the target package version that needs to be delivered as the default package during an assignment by setting that package Marker to CURRENT.

In upcoming labs, you will update the current Notepad++ 8.9.1 to 8.9.6.2, come back to the Packages tab, select 8.9.6.2 and set the Marker to CURRENT.

  1. Explore the Programs tab, under Inventory section
    • The Notepad++ Programs tab will provide read-only information on;
      • Version number: 8.9.1 for the executable that was captured when Notepad++ was packaged
      • Details on the Publisher is displayed
      • Details of the associated package is also displayed
Expand or collapse content Task 2: Validate the delivery of the App Volumes Package on demand
