Lab 9: Automated Device Enrollment and Application distribution for iOS devices
Introduction
This lab delves into working with Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) profiles. We also revisit the distribution of public applications, but for iOS devices.
Due to the requirement for student access to Apple Business Manager, the initial configuration of Automated Device Enrollment has already been completed in your lab. The configuration consists of a key / token exchange between Workspace ONE UEM and Apple Business Manager.
To learn more about the integration process, please view this video on Omnissa's Tech Zone: Integrating Apple's Automated Device Enrollment into Workspace ONE UEM.
Objectives and Tasks
Work with Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) profiles and app distribution:
- Navigate to Automated Device Enrollment in UEM.
- Create a new Automated Device Enrollment profile.
- Add a public app for iOS devices.
Task 1: Review the default enrollment profile in the Workspace ONE console
To access the ADE section in UEM:
- In the Workspace ONE console, click Groups & Settings.
- Select All Settings.
- Expand Devices & Users and then expand Apple.
- Click on Automated Device Enrollment.
- The Default Enrollment Profile has been configured in a parent OG, and is therefore not viewable or editable by you in your lab environment. However, you can create an ADE profile in the next Task, where you can Scroll through and see profile settings, such as Supervision and Lock MDM Profile. You can also see the Setup Assistant options.
Task 2: Create a new Automated Device Enrollment profile
To create a new Automated Device Enrollment profile:
- On the Automated Device Enrollment screen, click the Add Profile button.
- Custom enrollment delivers a fully customized experience to users during enrollment. Set Custom Enrollment to Off.
- Set Authentication to On.
- From the dropdown, select Corporate - Dedicated for Device Ownership Type.
- Ensure that your OG is listed in Device Organization Group. Your OG name will be student{labid}.
- For Profile Name, enter New Enrollment Profile.
- Enter IT for Department, and 123-456-7890 for Phone Number.
- Leave all other settings at the defaults.
- Click Save.
- You will notice that the new enrollment profile is now listed on the Automated Device Enrollment screen. Unlike the default enrollment profile, the new profile you just created is editable.
Task 3: Add a public app for distribution
Apps from the Apple App Store are examples of public apps. The provider of a store app maintains and provides updates to the app. You select the app in the store list and add it by using Workspace ONE UEM as an available app for your users.
To add a public app to Workspace ONE:
- In the Workspace ONE console, navigate to Resources. Click Native Apps.
- Select Public.
- Click Add Application.
- From the Platform dropdown menu, select Apple iOS.
- Type firefox in the Name field. Click Next.
- From the search results, click the Select button next to the entry for Firefox: Private, Safe Browser.
- Click Save & Assign.
- Enter Corporate-owned iOS Devices for the Assignment Name.
- From the Assignments Group dropdown menu, select Corporate-owned iOS Devices.
- Select On Demand for the App Delivery Method.
- Click Create.
- Click Save.
- Click Publish.
