- This will show 'AppVol_PRODUCTION_Users' as the new assignment for the Notepad++ (np++) application.
This section we will have you log into Horizon, via the Horizon Client from the ControlCenter VM. Launch an assigned virtual desktop and validate that Notepad++ has been delivered successfully to the user's session.
- Connect to a Horizon 8 virtual desktop (installed with the App Volumes Agent in the previous lab)
- Minimize the browser and any applications open within the ControlCenter VM
- From the Desktop, double-click and launch the Omnissa Horizon Client
- The Horizon Client is already configured to connect to Horizon 8
- Double-click on the horizon-02a.omnissatraining.com connection icon within the Horizon Client
- Authenticate using username: Student1

- Followed by the launching of the Notepad++ application
- Minimize the Horizon Client desktop session from the Horizon Client toolbar at the top of the screen
- Proceed to the validation steps shown below
- Finally, validate the Package Attachment in the App Volume admin console
- From the ControlCenter, log back into the App Volumes Admin console
- Navigate to the Inventory Attachments tab
- Validate that the Package/Volume 'np-8-9-1' corresponding to Application ' Np++' is reporting as attached to the target virtual desktop.
Additional administrative steps:
Take a walk through within the App Volumes admin console, review the visible entries reporting from the Directory objects that are Windows endpoints with App Volumes Agents, connected back to App Volumes Manager
- Exploring the Active tab from the App Volumes admin console
- Navigate to the Directory > Active tab
- Review the Windows endpoints with App Volumes Agents installed, connected to Appvol-02a that are powered ON, and reporting in metrics in the Active tab
- Exploring the Users, Computers, Groups, OUs tab
- Navigate to the Directory > 'Users', 'Computers', 'Groups', 'OUs' tab
- Review the connected User accounts, Computer accounts
- User tab: Student1 will reflect '1' in the 'attachment' columns
- Computer tab: will reflect '1' in the 'attachment' column, for the computer account session you are currently connected to
Under the Directory > Users section, the listing for 'Student1' will reflect as having only an 'Attachment' and not registered under 'Assignment' as the Notepad++ package was assigned to the AD Group 'Horizon-Students' and not a direct assignment to the 'Student1' user account
- If customers target App Volumes Applications to 'AD Group' objects, that would be listed under the 'Groups' tab
- If customers target App Volumes Applications to 'AD Organizational Object (OU)' objects, that would be listed under the 'OUs' tab
- Complete the lab by logging out of the virtual desktop session and closing the Horizon Client
This concludes the tasks for this lab.
