Lab 8: Creating App Package with App Volumes
Task 1: Login to the App Volumes Manager and vCenter
- Login to ControlCenter
- Username = Administrator
- Password = Pa$$w0rd
- Open Chrome Browser and from the Bookmarks bar, launch the App Volumes shortcut
- In the App Volumes admin console, login with
- Username = Administrator
- Password = Pa$$w0rd
- Click LOGIN
- View the list of existing applications
- Navigate to Inventory > Applications
- Login to the vCenter
- From the ControlCenter, open Chrome browser, launch the vcenter-01 shortcut
- Username = [email protected]
- Password = Pa$$w0rd
- Click LOGIN
- From the ControlCenter, open Chrome browser, launch the vcenter-01 shortcut
- Restart the required VMs
- Select esxi-01a.techseals.co from the inventory in the left-hand pane
- Select the VMs tab
- Select the State column in the VMs tab area
- Select the checkboxes next to the following VMs
- appVolprov-01a
- W11INST-1
- W11INST-2
- RDSH-1
- RDSH-2
- Right-click on one of the selected rows and select Power > Restart Guest OS from the dropdown
- Select YES when prompted to Confirm Guest Restart
- Unselect the VMs
- Uncheck the checkboxes next to the following VMs
- appVolprov-01a
- W11INST-1
- W11INST-2
- RDSH-1
- RDSH-2
- Uncheck the checkboxes next to the following VMs
- Start the Create an Application wizard
- Switch to the App Volumes Admin Console
- Select the INVENTORY tab and ensure you are in the Applications area
- Click on the CREATE button
- Complete the required fields in the Create Application window
- Name = NP++
- Leave all the other settings as the defaults
- Click CREATE
- In the Confirm Create Application window click CREATE
- Complete the required fields in the Create Package for NP++ window
- Name = npp887
- Leave all the other settings as the defaults
- Click CREATE
- In the Confirm Create Package window click CREATE
- Select the Packages tab
- Notice that once the Application and Package has been created, the Package itself has a status of Unpackaged
- Start the Package process
- Expand the npp877 package
- Click the PACKAGE button
- Search for a Packaging Computer
- Click the SEARCH button in the row Find Packaging Computer
- Select the Packaging Computer
- Select the radio button to the right of TECHSEALS\APPVOLPROV-01A$
- Click PACKAGE
- On the Confirm Start Packaging window click START PACKAGING
- Open a remote desktop session to the packaging machine
- On the ControlCenter server Desktop, open the Remote Desktops folder
- Launch the appvolprov-01a.RDP shortcut, from the Site1 folder
You should be automatically logged in as [email protected] with the password Pa$$w0rd
- On the appvolprov-01a desktop
- In the bottom right - corner, notice you have a Omnissa App Volumes - Packaging in progress window open.
- DO NOT click OK until you have finished all application installation and configuration
- If nothing shows, restart your virtual machine and reconnect using your RDP session.
- Install Notepad++ on the provisioning machine
- Open the software shortcut on the desktop of appvolprov-01a
- Browse to Applications
- Double-click on npp.8.7.7.Installer.x64 to install Notepad++
- Follow the prompts to install Notepad++ OK > Next > I Agree > Next > Next >Install > Finish
- After Installation, launch Notepad++ (it should automatically load after installation)
- Select Never in the Notepad++ Update Window
- Close Notepad++
- Finalize the Notepad++ package
- Click OK in the Omnissa App Volumes - Packaging in progress window
- Click Yes in the Installation complete? window
- Click Finalize in the Omnissa App Volumes - Finalize Package window
- Click OK in the Restart required window
- Give the virtual machine at least 2 minutes to reboot
- Reconnect to the packaging machine
- On the ControlCenter server Desktop, launch the appvolprov-01a.RDP shortcut.
- Notice there is now a Packaging successful message. There may be a delay before this displays.
- Click OK
- Shut down your AppVolProv-01a virtual machine
- Revert the packaging machine to a clean state
- On your ControlCenter server desktop, using the Chrome browser, switch back to your vSphere Web Client
- Select and right-click the AppVolProv-01a VM
- Select Snapshots > Revert to latest Snapshot
- Click REVERT to confirm this action on the Revert to latest Snapshot window
- Right-click the AppVolProv-01a VM
- Select Power > Power On
- Set the Notepad++ package to be the current version of the application
- Switch to the App Volumes Admin Console
- Select the Inventory > Packages area
- Expand np877
- Click the SET CURRENT button
- Click SET CURRENT in the Confirm Set CURRENT window
- Assign the application to users
- In the Inventory > Applications tab
- Expand NP++
- Click ASSIGN
- Search for the user group to assign
- In the Assign Application: NP++ window
- Type Developers in the box next to Search Active Directory
- Click SEARCH
- Select the groups to assign to NPP++
- Select the checkbox to the right of TECHSEALS\Developers
- Click ASSIGN
- Click ASSIGN in the Confirm Assign, window
- Repeat the task and assign the application to the Techseals\Sales group
- Remote console to a client VM
- On your ControlCenter server open the Remote Desktops > Site 1 folder
- Launch the W11Client-01a.RDP shortcut
- Username = techseals.co\Craig
- Password = Pa$$w0rd
- Launch the Omnissa Horizon Client
- On the W11Client -01a launch the Omnissa Horiuzon Client
- Connect to horizon-01a.techseals.co
- Username: craig
- Password: Pa$$w0rd
- Start a session with a W11-INST desktop
- Double-click on W11-INST
- Test Notepad++
- The Notepad++ package has been attached to W11-INST
- Launch Notepad++
- Note: In this lab environment, the shortcut might not appear on the desktop
- You can use the Windows Search function to find Notepad++
