Lab 3: Configuring an Instant Clone Desktop Pool
Objective and Tasks
In this lab, we create an Instant Clone Pool
- Connect to Controlcenter Server
- Login to Connection Server
- Add a Domain Account
- Create a Instant Clone Pool
- On your Controlcenter server
- Chrome browser
- from the Favourites bar
- select the Horizon-01A shortcut
- In the Horizon Login window
- Username
- enter Administrator
- Password
- enter Pa$$w0rd
- select Sign in
- Username
- from the Favourites bar
- Chrome browser
- In the Horizon Admin console
- in the menu pane
- below Settings
- select Domains
- In the Horizon Admin console
- Domains > Domain Accounts tab
- select ADD
- Domains > Domain Accounts tab
- In the Add Domain Admin window
- next to * Username
- enter Instant
- next to * Password
- enter Pa$$w0rd
- select OK
- next to * Username
- In the Horizon Admin Console
- In the left pane
- under Inventory,
- select Desktops
- under Inventory,
- In the left pane
- In the Desktop Pools
- select ADD
- In the Add Pool wizard
- step 1. Type
- leave all default
- select NEXT
- leave all default
- step 1. Type
- In the Add Pool wizard
- step 2. vCenter Server
- leave all default
- select NEXT
- leave all default
- step 2. vCenter Server
- In the Add Pool wizard
- step 3. User Assignment
- next to Floating
- select the radio button
- select NEXT
- next to Floating

- In the Add Pool wizard
- step 4. Storage Optimization
- next to Use Separate Datastores for Replica and OS Disks
- select the checkbox
- in the bottom right-corner
- select NEXT
- next to Use Separate Datastores for Replica and OS Disks

- In the Add Pool wizard
- step 5 Desktop Pool Identification,
- update the following s:-
- under ID
- enter W11-INST
- under Display Name
- enter W11-INST
- select Next
- under ID
- update the following s:-
- step 5 Desktop Pool Identification,
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- Provisioning Settings
- under Use a Naming Pattern
- enter W11INST-
- under Desktop Pool sizing Maximum Machines
- enter 2
- under Use a Naming Pattern
- at the bottom fo the window
- below Virtual Device
- next to Add vTPM Device to VMs
- select the checkbox
- In the Warning window
- select OK
- next to Add vTPM Device to VMs
- below Virtual Device
- select NEXT
- Provisioning Settings
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- vCenter Settings
- On the line with Golden Image in vCenter configure the following:-
- BROWSE to W11PreBuilt and SUBMIT
- under Snapshot
- BROWSE to Production ready version 1.0 and SUBMIT
- under Virtual Machine Location
- BROWSE to RegionA01 and SUBMIT
- On the line with Golden Image in vCenter configure the following:-
- vCenter Settings
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- vCenter Settings
- continue configuring the following:-
- under Resource Settings
- Cluster
- Browse to BlrCapacity and SUBMIT
- Resource Pool
- Browse to BlrCapacity and SUBMIT
- Datastores
- Browse to CorpLUN-01a and SUBMIT
- In the Warning window , click OK
- Cluster
- select NEXT
- under Resource Settings
- continue configuring the following:-
- vCenter Settings
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- Pool Settings
- under Log off After Disconnect:
- from the dropdown
- select Immediately
- from the dropdown
- under Allow Users to Restart Machines
- from the dropdown
- select Yes
- from the dropdown
- under Log off After Disconnect:
- select NEXT
- Pool Settings
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- Remote Display Settings
- accept the defaults
- select NEXT
- Remote Display Settings
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- Guest Customization
- below Domain
- validate that techseals.co(Instant) is selected
- below AD Container
- select BROWSE
- expand OU=Corp,
- select OU=Computers,OU=Corp
- select Submit
- Use ClonePrep
- select the radio button
- expand OU=Corp,
- next to Allow Reuse of Existing Computer Accounts
- select the checkbox
- Select Next
- select BROWSE
- below Domain
- Guest Customization
- In the Add Pool - W11-INST wizard
- step 11 Ready to Complete
- next to Entitle Users After Adding Pool
- select the checkbox
- select SUBMIT
- next to Entitle Users After Adding Pool
- step 11 Ready to Complete
- In the Add Entitlements window
- select ADD
- In the Find User or Group window
- next to Domain,
- from the dropdown,
- select techseals.co
- from the dropdown,
- next to Name/User Name,
- to the right of Starts with,
- enter developers
- to the right of Starts with,
- select Find
- under Find
- next to Developers
- select the CheckBox
- next to Developers
- under Find
- to close Find User or Group
- select OK
- to close Add Entitlements
- select OK
- next to Domain,
- In the Info window
- select OK
- In the Desktop Pools
- Refresh the Admin Console
- Click the Refresh button
- Click on the Desktop Pool ID W11-INST
- Refresh the Admin Console
- under the Summary tab,
- scroll down to Secondary Image
- view the progress of the pool being Provisioned
- To the right notice the State is Publishing
- When complete this will report as Published
- you will need to have to wait until the Pool is Published
- scroll down to Secondary Image
NOTE: The page does not dynamically update. You will have to refresh periodically.
- In the Horizon Admin Console
- under Inventory
- select Machines
- under Inventory
- In Machines
- to view the Machine Status ,
- use the scroll bar at the bottom of the window
- scroll right.
- use the scroll bar at the bottom of the window
- wait until the Status shows Available for your Machines
- to view the Machine Status ,
